You are invited to a Sacred Circle Dance at the Golden Plough Lodge during the
months of September and October. The event is inspired by various
traditions from around the world. Music and dance is used to relax and
celebrate community. Dancing will
hopefully take place in the garden area of the Golden Plough. Anyone is invited to join the group on
any Sunday. On the dates Sep.10, Oct. 1, Nov. 5, Dec. 10 and Jan. 7
from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. tea will be served afterwards. Other dates include Sep.24,
Oct. 22, Nov.19, and Jan. 21 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. The event is free of charge,
but a donation of $2-3 dollars per person is suggested. For more

Peterborough AIDS Resource Network and Trent University AIDS Education Resources are pleased to present this years fundraising walk. The walk will be held on Sunday, September 24th, and will start at Peter Robinson College, (751 George Street North, Peterborough). Those who register before September 1st by phone or e-mail will be entered in a random draw for a $250 voucher served by Air Canada or Canadian Airlines. Registration will begin at 12:30 p.m. followed by a short warm-up at 1:20 p.m. led by Peter Adams, MP. Finally the race will begin at 1:30 p.m. Maps will be provided on the day of the race for both 2km and 5km races through beautiful Peterborough. Both routes are fully accessible to walk, run, skip, rollerblade, roll or jump. Everyone is asked to gather pledges from their family, friends, neighbourhood, or workplace and bring the pledge form and money collected to the start point on the day of the run.

Submit $300 or more in collected pledges to receive AIDS Walk Canada denim shirt

REVIVE YOUR BODY SPIRIT & SOUL. An informative evening of alternative health care is being held at the Cobourg Public Library on September 6th, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Medical science is now beginning to turn a corner. Some doctors are now realizing the value and the benefits of some alternative health care. With this in mind, an informative night is being offered free of charge, so the Western style medicine along with complimentary alternatives can be brought together. With today's backlog in our medical system, it is up to us as individuals to each take the responsibility for our health.

The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health is proud to host a special education event. This interactive lecture provides addiction and mental health professionals with a greater understanding of the use of brief treatment therapy for clients suffering from concurrent disorders.
PARTICIPANTS WILL LEARN ABOUT...
Long-term vs. brief therapy: What is brief therapy? How can it be brief?
Problem-solving paradigm vs. solution-building paradigm
Effective use of language that leads to collaborative relationship with clients
How to elicit client resources and build support
A step by step approach to the solution building process and ways to manage relapses
The lecture will be held on Wednesday, September 20, 2000. It will be held at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, Auditorium, Clarke Site at 250 College Street from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. There is a fee for this lecture of $350.00 However it is a special event with Insoo Kim Berg as a special guest faculty presenter.

SCHIZOPHRENIA SOCIETY OF ONTARIO
The Northumberland Chapter of the Schizophrenia Society of Ontario is pleased to announce that our speaker for September 13th will be Bill McPhee. Bill is well acquainted with Schizophrenia, having battled the ups and down of the illness himself. He is the publisher of Schizophrenia Digest, a publication that seeks to inform the public, professionals, and those afflicted with Schizophrenia, about the illness, and coping with it and how to treat it. Everyone attending should look forward to hearing about Bill's experience with his journal and how he overcame the obstacles associated with a mental illness to become a noteworthy publisher and public speaker.
The meeting will be held at St.Michael's Parish Centre (Havelock and Division) in Cobourg at 2:30 p.m. on September 13th. Anyone interested is welcome to attend. Email: NorthumberlandSSO@hotmail.com
The Northumberland News, in conjunction with The Northumberland Mall, brings you Fall Registration 2000. Fall Registration is a one-stop opportunity for registering children for various recreational activities such as hockey, dance classes, karate, Scouts, Girl Guides, and more. This is one of the rare events where the public will be able to find all the experts under one roof. Booths will be set up on Wednesday August 30th and Thursday August 31st. Booths will be staffed from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

Enjoy Presqu'ile's wonderful diversity all year long by attending one, two or three of the following discovery programs in the off-season. These are hands-on field and classroom events led by expert naturalists.
Majestic Mushrooms
What's going on in the dark soil underneath us? It's the Fungi kingdom and we are out to classify the Presqu'ile varieties. Come and help us build an inventory from over 400 species. Please bring your own lunch. This program will be held Saturday September 30th, 2000 from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Deer in a Rut
Why do deer rub trees, mark their territory and spar with each other? Come and learn about the mating season of Presqu'ile's white-tailed deer and see them in their fall regalia. Also, gain insights into the effects these animals have on their habitat. This program will be held Saturday October 21st, 2000 from 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Winter "Soup" Hike
Meet with a naturalists to see over wintering birds and learn about Presqu'ile's spectacular ice formations. Have a hot bowl of soup at the Staff House. This program will be held Saturday February 17th, 2001.

information on community services. Also you will have a chance to post
your Volunteer Opportunities online.
To receive a Volunteer Opportunities Questionnaire for you agency, either phone (905) 372-8913 or 1-800-396-6626, or e-mail us at northumberland@fourinfo.com. After you receive a questionnaire, the process is simple. Please photocopy and fill out a separate form for every volunteer opportunity that your organization has to post. Send your completed questionnaire(s) to info NORTHUMBERLAND and we will make then a part of our exciting database launch in September.
There is a membership fee of $25.00 annually to use this service. However, organizations that are not funded are exempt from paying the fee.
Congratulations to Linda Ryan on her new position at the Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority. Linda will be leaving the Northumberland Distress Centre towards the end of this month. Best wishes Linda.

CLOTHING AND TOY DRIVE
Do you have good or used clothes that you would like to donate? Or perhaps
your children have good used toys that they no longer need? If so, please donate
them to Northumberland Up From The Ashes Poverty Action Group (nUFTApag).
Donations will be accepted at the HKPR Health Unit on Saturday, September
16th from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and will be given to families that need
children's clothes or toys from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Another session
will take place on Saturday September 23rd at the Calvary Baptist Church
at the corner of King and Ball Streets, Cobourg. Donations will be accepted from
10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and clothes and toys will distributed from 12:00 to
