EMERGENCY SERVICES DAY 2000
The Warkworth Business Association in cooperation with Warkworth Fire Department, will be presenting an  Emergency Services Day on Saturday, May 6, 2000 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Warkworth Fair Grounds and Arena. The purpose of this event is to bring public awareness to emergency services within the area, which respond in the time of need and in the aftermath. There will be presentations, demonstrations, and events such as:

Mobile Smoke House WBA Barbecue HAZMAT Equipment
Ontario Hydro Post Traumatic Stress CPR & Heimlich

ART GALLERY OF NORTHUMBERLAND - ART IN FLIGHT
Show on the Road's current exhibition Art In Flight, features a selection of "soaring" images from the Art Gallery of Northumberland's permanent collection and is now on view at the Campbellford Library until Saturday, May 13, 2000. The following events will be offered in conjunction with Art In Flight:

Tuesday, May 9: Meet Brighton carver Don Hunter between 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. in the main lobby.  Don will demonstrate the stages of carving a bird out of wood and answer any questions.

Saturday, May 13: Drop in anytime between 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. and make a kite with artist Skye Morrison.  Then try out your kite in the park! Adults and kids welcome. Admission and materials are free.

The Campbellford/Seymour Library is located at 98 Bridge St. E,. Campbellford. After Campbellford, Art In Flight will travel to the Hope Township Municipal Office, on County Road #10, from May 18 to June 16, 2000; the Art Gallery of Northumberland in Port Hope from June 21 to July 21, 2000; and the Alderville Learning Centre from July 26 to August 25, 2000. THE OPEN DOOR
The Open Door is living skills and information for adults that is sponsored by Access Community Services & Salvation Army Services. Plan to attend the next session, "Elder Abuse and Street Proofing for Adults" with Sue Storey of the O.P.P.  The next open door will be held on Monday , May 1, 2000, 1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. at Family Services Building, 66 Swayne Street, Cobourg. CHARITY WORK DAY
On Saturday, April 29, 2000, the Trinity College School  can be hired for spring cleaning, yard work, odd jobs, gardening, car washing or lawn cutting in exchange for a donation that will go directly to Canada World Youth. DESIGNS FOR DEMENTIA CARE
The Alzheimer Society of Ontario, the Murray Alzheimer Research and Education Program (University of Waterloo), Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, and the Ontario Senior's Secretariat, present: "Designs for Dementia Care: Components of the Total Environment." This conference is designed to illustrate environments (individual, social, physical and organizational), innovative approaches and programming that enhance quality of life, and support people with Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia. Selected topics as they relate to the facility and home environments will be addressed.

Conference Objectives:
This conference will provide participants with the opportunity to gain valuable knowledge in a variety of key areas. These include:

The conference will be held on May 11th and 12th at the Regal Constellation Hotel, Toronto, Ontario. Room Rates are $115-$125 single or double, plus taxes. Conference registration is $300 to $475. For more information, call (905) 567-5245.

STUDENTS SUPPORTING SENIORS
Secondary school students have volunteered to do spring cleaning or - garden clean-up - for seniors and physically challenged members of the community on Thursday, May 4, 2000. Free of charge, students will do odd jobs around the house.  For safety reasons, they are not permitted to do heavy lifting, use a ladder, axe, chainsaw or electric clippers.  If you would like to have a student help you, please call the Community Care office in your area between April 17th and April 25th, 2000 inclusive. You may leave a message on the answering machine if the Community Care office is not open. Call Cobourg and District Community Care (905) 372-7356.

FOOT CARE & DIABETES FREE LECTURE
Back by popular demand, there will be a free lecture by Special Guest Speaker, Dr. George Merry, M.D. on Tuesday, May 16, 2000 at the Port Hope Lions Recreation Centre, 29 Thomas Street , Port Hope. The lecture will be from 7:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.  Admission and Refreshments are free. Come prepared to ask any questions you may have.  Everyone is welcome.

FOUR COUNTIES FAMILY COURT MEDIATION SERVICE
If you family is caught in the whirlwind of separation and divorce, then one of the series of public information meetings can help you. The sessions are open to all. There are two upcoming sessions in the area.

May 3rd - Cobourg Public Library - 200 Ontario Street - 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
May 31st - Port Hope Health Unit - 200 Rose Glen Road - 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

ART GALLERY OF NORTHUMBERLAND - EXHIBIT: FLOWER GIRL
The Art Gallery of Northumberland will be hosting an exhibit which is circulated by the Art Gallery of Peterborough. The exhibit is entitled: "Flower Girl". The artist, Michelle Karch-Archerman, uses articles of girl's clothing, some deliberately buried, then exhumed, combined with late 19th and early 20th century photographic images, to examine the relationship between spirit and "earthen artifact". The exhibit will be on display from April 23rd to June 4th.  For more information contact the gallery at (905) 372-0333.

VON VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY
The Victoria Order of Nurses is looking for volunteers for the Adult Day Centre. The Adult Day Centre runs a social and recreational program including crafts, baking, shuffleboard, woodworking, and other activities. If you have 2 to 3 hours to spare per week, and enjoy spending time with seniors, please call Melissa at (905) 3772-8659 Tuesday through Friday. Orientation will be provided.

BIG SISTERS McHAPPY DAY
Plans are underway to make May 16th a truly outstanding event for Big Sisters. McHappy Day is a one day fundraising event at McDonalds restaurants across Canada in support of children's charities. This year, Big Sisters is the chosen charity in Cobourg. One dollar from every Big Mac and breakfast bagel sold on May 16 goes to Big Sisters, as well as 25 cents from the sale of every McFlurry purchased from April 21st until May 16th. The day will be full of fun activities for children, so bring your family and friends and support Big Sisters by eating lots!

IVF SYMPOSIUM
The Infertility Network and the Michener Institute, will be sponsoring a symposium on May 6th, at the Michener Institute for Applied Health Sciences, 222 St. Patrick Street, Toronto. The symposium is entitled: "Building Families: What you need to know about IVF". The following topics will be addressed:
