NORTHUMBERLAND'S
23RD ANNUAL REGIONAL JURIED EXHIBITION
The theme for the Art Gallery of Northumberland's 23rd Annual Regional Juried
Exhibition is TIME, which seems to have particular resonance now that we have
entered the 21st Century. This year's theme, however, is not intended to limit
artistic creativity to the millennium. Rather, the millennium is a mere
launching pad for the mind and hand to interpret "time" - whether
reflective or foreseeing, momentous or minute, linear or looping, specific or
transcendental - in any shape or colour. Each entrant may submit up to 4
original artworks produced within the last 2 years, in any media (painting,
drawing, printmaking, photography, sculpture, carving, fabric, ceramic, wood,
glass, metal, etc.) Anyone 18 years and over, who is a resident of
Northumberland County or a member of the Gallery is eligible to enter. Artworks
must be brought to the Gallery on Saturday, March 4th between 1:00 and 4:00
p.m., OR Monday, March 6th between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. accompanied by an
entry form and small fee (Members: $5 per work, Non-members: $10 per work.) This
year's jurors are Michael Bell, director of the Carleton University Art Gallery,
Ottawa, and Wendy Cain, a print and paper-making artist who also teaches at the
Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto. Accepted art works will be
exhibited at the Gallery from March 11th to April 15th, 2000. For more
information and/or to receive an entry form, contact or drop by the Art Gallery
of Northumberland, located on the 3rd floor, West Wing of Victoria Hall, 55 King
St. West, Cobourg , Ontario, (905) 372-0333.
JOHNNY REID COMES
TO PORT HOPE
The Capitol Theatre and Johnny Mac Entertainment are pleased to
present Johnny Reid, on Saturday, January 29th at 8:00 p.m., at the
Capitol Theatre in Port Hope. Johnny Reid has been singing professionally for
more than half of his 25 years. In his distinctive Scottish accent, he will tell
you frankly that he's been preparing for a musical career his whole life. He has
been singing in, and winning competitions since he was four years old and began
writing his own songs when he was thirteen. Reid's musical influences range from
Motown to Classic County, which would explain why his songs have been said to
"blend the music of the country with the performance of the soul." His
talent was dubbed "undeniable" after his hot debut single "Given
Up On Me" was released to Canadian Country Radio in August of 1999 and
rapidly moved up the charts. Johnny Reid is currently touring his debut album
across North America. Tickets are $15. For further information, please call Tammy
Woolacott at (905) 885-1071.

CHURCH OF OUR LADY
OF MERCY, MILLENNIUM RESTORATION PROJECT
As a part of the fundraising drive for the restoration project, the Church of
Our Lady of Mercy is hosting a seat dedication program. You are invited to
dedicate a seat of the church for yourself, your family, or a loved one, as a
visible reminder of the love and dedication that exists within their parish
community. By dedicating a seat, the church will arrange a brass plaque,
approximately 3 inches by a 1½ inches, to be inscribed in your own words, and
installed at the seat for you, as well as other parishioners and visitors, of
the church to enjoy. The church is seeking a donation of $100 per dedication,
for which you will receive an income tax receipt for the full amount. The Church
seating plan will be on display on the bulletin board at the back of the Church,
and seats will be crossed off as they have been dedicated. Dedications will be
accepted on a first-come, first served basis and one 1 dedication per seat will
be accepted. Therefore, you are urged to make your dedication early to avoid
disappointment. For more information, contact Bill Conway at (905)
