Nights Free at the Cobourg Bowling Club
The Cobourg Lawn Bowling Club invites anyone interested to come out to the
introductory nights in June. Each Wednesday night in June is reserved just for
people interested in the sport, but have never played. Instruction and use of
equipment is free! Please wear flat soled shoes to protect the greens which are

Community Advisory Board
The Women's Health Care Centre is currently seeking volunteers to sit on their
community advisory board. They are especially looking for older women from
Northumberland County who are not service providers. If interested, please call Jane

Creative
Puppetbuilding Weekend for Adults
All are invited to an intensive puppetbuilding workshop hosted by television
puppeteer Nina Keogh. Nina Keogh's screen work includes Today's Special,
Mr. DressUp, Friendly Giant and many more. The workshop is for artists,
non-artists, parents, educators, those who like to sew or just have an interest
or love of puppets. The weekend's activities will be held at the Keogh Studio on
May 26th and 27th from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Maximum class size is 6.

Hospice Annual General Meeting
The Annual General Meeting of Lakeshore Hospice will take place on Wednesday,
June 6th at 7:00 p.m. at the Golden Plough Lodge, Cobourg. Guest speaker for the
evening will Janet Napper, Executive Director of the Hospice Association
of Ontario.

The Health Care Health and Safety Association of Ontario is hosting another series of informative hour-long teleconference sessions on current occupational health and safety topics designed for health care sector organizations. The next teleconference will be:
How to Develop and Implement a Workplace Violence Program
Date: Tuesday June 12, 2001
Time: 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
Violence in the workplace is a growing concern in the Health Care Sector. This one-hour teleconference will focus on the components of a workplace violence program. The session will consist of a panel discussion with speakers including a Health Care Health and Safety Association consultant to discuss program elements, a lawyer to supply the legal component and an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) professional to provide advice about dealing with critical incidents.

ADHD/Learning Disability Information Night
Is your child starting school this fall? Would you like
information about this transition? If so, you are invited to an evening of

Identification Placement Review Committee (I.P.R.C.) process, what school
supports are available for your child, how to share information with the school,

Open Door...
The next session in the "Open Door" series will take place on Monday,

The Resource Centre will be offering some workshops to help even "newbies"
learn the joys of surfing (on the Internet, that is).
Cyber Camp

Geared at age 6 - 10 year olds this workshop teaches Safe Surfing techniques. Your children will be guided through some really "cool" kid-safe sites.

Ontario Trillium Foundation Town Hall Meeting
The Ontario Trillium Foundation has invited all
community members to Town Hall Meetings in their local areas. The Ontario
Trillium Foundation granted $5,816,600 to charitable and non-profit
organizations in Durham, Haliburton, Kawartha & Pine Ridge in
2000-2001. The Town Hall meeting in the Northumberland/Peterborough area took
place on May 14th, 2001. In case you missed that opportunity, you can still
attend the meeting in the Durham region which will be held on Wednesday, May
30th at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at Windreach Farm, which
is north of Whitby. Directions are as follows:
From Whitby, head north on Hwy #12
Pass Myrtle and Myrtle Station. Look for the blue government sign going west off #12.

The Haliburton, Northumberland and Victoria Access Centre

Services presents Dave Hingsburger. Mr. Hingsburger has been renowned as

Management Conference: "New Frontiers in Pain". The conference will be

The Haliburton Kawartha Pine Ridge District Health Unit is please to announce
their new Parent-Child Mother Goose Program. Bring your baby or toddler (0 to 30
months) to learn new nursery rhymes, songs and stories. The program will run on
Tuesdays starting June 5th to July 3rd at the Cobourg Public Library, from 10:00

News
from Northumberland Family Respite Services
In the 2000 newsletter from Northumberland Family Respite Services, they
stated that they were asked by the Ministry of Community and Social Services to
organize a 4 county respite care service. Respite Care has expanded its
horizons. Host Family, In Home, Community Activity, Summer Buddy, Teens on the
Go, Kids Together, Kid Companions and more are happening in the four Counties.
The names of the activities may differ in each County, but the goal is the same
- give parents a break. NFRS is pleased to announce a respite houses in Lindsay
and Warkworth that will be available this summer. They also have a host family
respite house in Peterborough available now. More providers are needed to give
respite! Families are waiting to be matched with a provider. For more

Starting on June 6th, the Capitol Theatre will be hosting an evening of drama
and humour with their presentation of "Baby Makes Two". This
charming romantic comedy immerges the viewer in the complications of being a

News for PARN
On March 20th, Peterborough Aids Resource Network (PARN) was notified that the
Ontario Trillium Foundation had approved their application for assistance with a
rural outreach project. They received a three-year grant to support outreach
programs to increase volunteer involvement and AIDS awareness in Haliburton and
Northumberland counties and the City of Kawartha Lakes. Hiring is currently
underway to employ an Outreach Coordinator. The rural outreach project
will attempt to bridge the gap in services offered to rural areas. PARN
will be hosting activities in different locations throughout the region and
providing services to clients in their own communities. Keep on the lookout for
PARN coming to your area!

Horizons of Friendship is presenting their
4th Annual Homes, Gardens and Music Tour on Sunday, July 15th from 1:30 to 6:00
p.m. The day features heritage homes, lakeside vistas, elegant gardens, live

Rebound
Summer Camp Programs
Rebound Youth Services are pleased to offer their Rebound Summer Day Camp
Programs again this year. Rebound will offer a Creative Writing week and an Arts
& Crafts week. Registration is open to all community members, recognizing
that space is limited.
Creative Writing Camp
This camp explores the stages in the process of writing combined with artistic ability, in the creation of their own 'book'. This camp will be held July 23rd to 27th from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the Rebound offices. Children ages 8 - 13 are invited to participate. The registration fee for this week of camp is $10 per child.
Arts & Crafts Camp
This camp is a fun filled week of creative , constructive activities for children 6 to 12 years of age. This camp will be held July 20th to August 3rd from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the Rebound Offices. Attendees will be going outside for portions of this camp, therefore sunscreen is suggested. This camp registration fee is $10 per child.
Snacks are provided at the camps, therefore notification of allergies is important. Please call the Rebound office at 905-372-0007 to register your child.

Camps
These special camps are being offered in partnership with Rebound Youth Services
and the Community Training and Development Centre (CTDC), offering youth between
the ages of 12 and 15 years the opportunity to participate in 5 career
orientated camps, for action packed excitement. These Career Camps are full day
camps, with some overnight experiences. Camp fees are $250 per week. Subsidy may
be available.
