NORTHUMBERLAND
COMMUNITY TRANSPORTATION ACTION PROGRAM UPDATE
If you havent heard of CTAP, it is a program that
combines the efforts of five provincial ministries to assist
communities to better co-ordinate their transportation resources.
In Northumberland County, a steering committee has been working
for over two years. The committee has prepared a report that has
been sent to all local service clubs requesting donations towards
the project. Members of the steering committee will be making
presentations to local municipalities in the fall. The hope is
that with everyone working together and contributing to a
collective plan, some of the transportation frustrations in the
county may be decreased or eliminated. Priorities for the CTAP
committee are issues such as the low availability of accessible
transportation, the difficulties of getting from one part of the
county to another arising due to program boundaries, the
availability of volunteer drivers and the possibilities for
sharing resources and training. Look for news on a workshop,
likely in early September, for transportation providers and
agencies that use volunteers. Also look for a transportation
resource pamphlet that will be prepared over this summer. For
more information on CTAP, call Lori at (905)
372-8913 or 1-800-396-6626.
