New Stress Management Group for Women
The Northumberland United Way has provided Northumberland Services For Women with New Initiatives funding to run a 17 week Stress management group.  The group begins at the end of August this year and will be available to 15 women who are dealing with stress due to abuse.  This group will be run with a male and a female leader instead of 2 female leaders which will give women the opportunity to see a positive male role model.  This group will include a discussion of the symptoms of anxiety and how to deal with them.  After learning how to better handle their stress, women can move on to one of their support groups for a more in-depth discussion of self esteem and assertiveness or the can receive individual supportive counselling from their Outreach counsellors.  Alternatively, if the women require a more therapeutic group, Northumberland Services for Women can refer them to another agency.  For further info call 905-372-7056.

Family Picnic July 8, 2001 At Cobourg's

Victoria
Parks

A most casual affair - bring your family, your lawn chairs, your lunch, your bathing suits and sunscreen and sand pails. Have a day at the beach, stroll the 22 acre treed park, play mini-golf, enjoy being with other families. Nothing structured about this day - just time to enjoy God's grandeur with family and special friends.
Time: roughly mid-morning OR noon till 3:30 or so! See? Highly unstructured!
Directions: take exit 474 off the 401 and head south on Division St. You can drive right out onto the pier by just heading straight! Then turn around and turn east on Queen St. which goes right through the park. Park your car where you can. As a group, we'll aim for the south-east corner of the park, on the grass by the beach. Bring a picnic blanket to spread out for your lunch, as tables may be hard to come by. At 2:00 p.m. we will gather to share a piece of lovers' cake. Look for a green awning with the WWME banners. Mass: is available at St. Michael's Catholic Church which is on Division St. at University Ave. Mass times are 9 a.m. (lively folk/family mass) and 11 a.m. (traditional organ music). For more info call 905-372-6844.

Stories Of Inspiration From Local Volunteers

info NORTHUMBERLAND is excited to announce the development of our new volunteer link attached to our fourinfo website. To help inspire others to volunteer, we thought that personal stories about local people and their experiences would be a great motivator. We want to introduce everyone to the world of volunteering and the array of opportunities that can be found to match any personality and goal. Hopefully, with this site people will understand how important volunteering is along with the experiences that go hand and hand with giving time. Please email any stories to northumberland@fourinfo.com.
